ECEC Fuel Cell Research: Advanced In-Situ Diagnostic Methods

ECEC has pioneered an array of advanced in-situ diagnostic methods to probe liquid water transport, distribution, and related mass transport loss in polymer electrolyte fuel cells. Past efforts include:

  • In-situ measurement of water transport properties in Gore-Select and hydrocarbon membranes as well as diffusion media
  • Optical visualization and quantification of channel two-phase flow and maldistribution
  • X-ray micro-/nano-tomography of liquid water in catalyst layer, microporous layer and GDL
  • Micron-resolution current, humidity and temperature distributions over channel and land
