Post-Doc and Staff Engineer Positions in Multi-Physics Modeling and Engineering of Electric Drive Batteries

Applications are invited for post-doctoral fellows or staff engineers at Electrochemical Engine Center (ECEC) in the field of multi-physics modeling and numerical simulation of electric vehicle batteries and their systems. We are looking for talented, ambitious, and hard-working candidates, especially those with industrial experience in the automotive industry. Required Qualifications:

- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields

- Strong prior experience in CFD

- Strong skills in CFD mesh generation

- understanding of advanced algorithms

- Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment

- Ability to work independently to solve critical problems

- Programming experience with C, C++, and FORTRAN

These positions are immediately available.

The ECEC, directed by Prof. Chao-Yang Wang, is a multi-disciplinary research program concentrating on understanding and developing advanced batteries and fuel cells for vehicle electrification, renewable energy storage, and power grid management. The group usually has 12 research associates, 3 visiting scholars, and 14 Ph.D students with specialties in electrochemistry, materials, manufacturing, diagnostics, CFD modeling, and system engineering. The center has extensive computational and experimental research facilities, including a recently installed large format Li-ion cell fabrication facility believed to be the first among US universities. Applications are invited for a number of graduate research assistantships at the PhD level and post-doctoral fellows at Electrochemical Engine Center (ECEC) of Penn State University in the field of energy storage science and technology. Specifically, we are looking for talented, ambitious, hard-working, experienced candidates in areas of Li-ion battery manufacturing, cell development, cell diagnostics, modeling and battery management systems. Opportunity exists to collaborate with leading automotive and materials companies. Qualified candidates can be placed in either mechanical engineering, or chemical engineering, or materials science and engineering department, depending on their background and education. These positions are immediately available.
