ECEC Fuel Cell Research: Comparative Study of Direct and Indirect Methanol Fuel Cell Systems

Investigators: C. Y. Wang, Matthew Mench, Oliver Finckh, Qunlong Dong, and Sukkee Um

This project is to perform a comparative study of direct and indirect methanol fuel cell systems based on ultra-clean fuels. Emphasis is placed on assessing the impact of fuel composition on both applications.

The General Purpose Fuel Cell Testing System at the ECEC, capable of controlled pressure, flowrate, temperature, humidity ratio, mixed species composition to simulate reformer effluent, and current density distribution measurement on a 12 channel Arbin system.
